Moynalvey secured a merited win when getting the better of Kilmainhamwood in this entertaining Division 3 A league game played in Moynalvey on Sunday afternoon June 14th.

Moynalvey 0-17 Kilmainhamwood 1-13

.

Moynalvey opened the strongest with scores from Ciaran Ennis (2), Brian Gilsenan & William Harnan leaving the score 0-4 to 0-1 after 12 minutes. However the visitors proceeded to level things up, adding the next three scores. The score remained level at half time, 0-7 apiece, with Moynalvey’s remaining points coming from John Donoghue, Brian Gilsenan & David Durkan.

.

Moynalvey started the second half in determined mood, when in the 3rd minute; Mark O’Sullivan cut open the Kilmainhamwood defence & laid off to William Harnan, only to see his goal bound effort brilliantly saved by the opposition keeper. From the resulting 45, some quick thinking from the Donoghue brothers resulted in Stephen taking a short pass from John & popping the ball over the black spot. In the 40th minute, Moynalvey came close to goaling again when Harnan saw his second effort at goal crash back off the post. However Moynalvey then endured a purple patch, seeing them add points from Ennis, O’Sullivan (3) & Durkan.

.

Over the remainder of the game Mark O’Sullivan was in superb scoring form, adding two more points to his tally. Moynalvey looked to have the game sown up leading 0-16 o 0-13 at the end of normal time, however in the 1st minute of injury time, Kilmainhamwood found the net to tie up the scores. At this stage it seemed Moynalvey would rue the goal chances that were spurned at the start of the half, only for substitute Brian Conneely to pop up with the winning point deep into injury time.

.

This result sees Moynalvey go joint top of he Division 3 A league table. Best on the day for Moynalvey were Paul Weldon, Damien Dixon, John Donoghue, David Durkan & Mark O’Sullivan.
