Moynalvey held out for a hard earned one point win in this tightly contested Intermediate Championship match played in Bective on Sunday afternoon, June 21st.

.

Moynalvey 1-8 Castletown 0-10

.

Castletown were quickest off the mark, racing into a two point lead in as many minutes, before Moynalvey opened their account through a Mark O’Sullivan goal, after good build up play from Damien Dixon & David Durkan had set him up. The remainder of the half was a nip & tuck affair, with the sides trading points, Moynalvey’s two points coming from David Donoghue & Ciaran Ennis, to leave the score tied at 1-2 to 0-5 after 26 minutes, only for Castletown to add another point at the death of the half to lead them a point up on a score of 0-6 to 1-2.

.

Moynalvey started the brighter of the two sides upon the resumption, with Brian Gilsenan fisting over in the second minute of the half. Sixty seconds later Ciaran Ennis superbly fielded a high ball close to goal, only to see his effort at goal smothered by the keeper. From the resulting 45, Cathal Sheridan split the posts after taking a return pass from his own short kick. Castletown added the next two points, before Moynalvey drew things level with a John Donoghue effort in the 42nd minute. Moynalvey rattled off the next three points of the match, with the first a mammoth score from Sheridan, the second from Durkan after an exquisite pass in from Mark O’Sullivan, and the third another fisted effort from Gilsenan. However Castletown failed to lie down, and forged a come back with two points of their own, leaving the minimum between the sides with four minutes remaining. In the 58th minute, Moynalvey looked doomed when Castletown were awarded a penalty, only for Moynalvey custodian Ollie Regan to pull off a fantastic save.

.

Over the remaining minutes Moynalvey held out for victory with resolute defending from Paul Weldon, Brendan Dixon & Damien Dixon. Best on the day for Moynalvey were Damien Dixon, Paul Weldon & John Donoghue.
