Moynalvey scored a comfortable 13 point victory over Castletown in the Ideal Bathrooms Junior ‘C’ Football Championship at Kilberry on Saturday evening June 4th.

Moynalvey 3-12 Castletown 0-8

Moynalvey opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a Luke Duffy point and never relinquished their lead throughout the remainder of the game. Castletown levelled matters in the 11th minute but this was the only time the sides were on a par. Despite the Moynalvey forward division clocking up numerous wides in the opening quarter, a trio of Ciaran Ennis frees had Moynalvey leading by double scores 0-4 to 0-2 with a minute of normal time remaining. A minute into injury time a foray forward from wing back David Durkan set up substitute Peter Durnin to finish to the net. Castletown scored their third point in the dying seconds leaving the score line reading 1-4 to 0-3 in favour of Moynalvey at the break.

Upon the restart Castletown reduced the deficit to two points with a brace in the opening three minutes. A minute later a smart piece of opportunism saw Johnny Carey block down a clearance from the Castletown goalie and drive over the bar. Ten minutes into the second period a goal remained between the teams as they traded 0-2 apiece, with Moynalvey’s efforts coming from an Ennis free and a Durnin point from play. Sixty seconds later Moynalvey hit the back of the net for a second time when a piercing run from Durnin orchestrated a goal chance for Carey. Further points from Ennis and Duffy pushed Moynalveys advantage to eight points on a 2-9 to 0-7 score line. With 15 minutes remaining and a commanding lead, Moynalvey emptied the substitutes bench. Substitutes Stephen Cummins (1-1), Shane McGann (0-1) and Robert Quinlan (0-1) completed the Moynalvey scoring for the evening resulting in a comfortable 3-12 to 0-8 victory.

Moynalvey: O. Regan, B. Byrne, D. Kane, S. Browne, D. Durkan, A. Brien, P. Garvey, G. Fagan, D. Smith, L. Duffy (0-2), C. Ennis (0-5), P. Corcoran, A. Donnelly, PJ Walsh, J. Carey (1-1). Subs: P. Durnin (1-1) for Walsh, S. Cummins (1-1) for Duffy, E. Maher for Donnelly, R. Quinlan (0-1) for Browne, S. McGann (0-1) for Carey.
