Carnaross opened their account with a free kick in the 11th minute but had to wait until the 23rd minute for their next score. During this interim period, Moynalvey laid the platform for victory with a brace of points from Willie Byrne and Ray Ryan dribbling the ball soccer style to the back of the net raising the only green flag of the evening. Further points from John Flannery and Brian Gilsenan in response to a Carnaross effort left the men in maroon and white with a commanding half time lead of 1-6 to 0-3.

However the four point margin between the sides was to remain the same at the final whistle. Over the remaining 28 minutes of the game both sides could only muster a point a piece, with Moynalvey’s effort an O’Sullivan free kick. Carnaross almost found the net themselves in the 30th minute, when their full forward John L. Magee got free from the shackles of Moynalvey full back Paul Weldon only to see his shot at goal superbly saved by Moynalvey net minder Ollie Regan.
