Moynalvey and Syddan got their 2019 A league campaigns off to a start by sharing the spoils at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Sunday morning 27th January.

Moynalvey 0-9
Syddan 0-9

Although both sides had chances to win, Moynalvey with new manager Gerry Smith at the helm for the first time and newly promoted Syddan under the guidance of former Moynalvey player Miley Byrne got their A league campaigns off to a start by picking up a point each.

Early scores for both sides came from their No. 15’s, Daire Rowe opening the visitor’s account in the 2nd minute, with Moynalvey’s Ray Ryan opening his side’s account a minute later.

A further three points in a row from Ryan, two frees and one from play, handed Moynalvey an early three-point advantage before he had to leave the field with an injury in the 15th minute.

Two Syddan points reduced the deficit to the minimum before James Weldon extended Moynalvey’s advantage to two points again. Scores remained hard to come by in the remainder of the half, with Syddan adding their 4th point just before half time, leaving Moynalvey two points to the good at the break, 0-6 to 0-4.

Within four minutes of the restart Syddan’s talisman Daire Rowe hit a brace of points to draw the sides level for just the second time. Ten minutes later Moynalvey’s Padraic Harnan pointed to retake the lead for the home side, 0-7 to 0-6.

Another brace from Rowe, the second a huge score assisted by the wind from outside the 45-yard line gave the visitors the lead for the first time,0-8 to 0-7 on the three-quarter hour mark.

Another Syddan point extended their lead to two, but two brilliantly judged points from placed balls by Padraic Harnan against a strong wind meant Moynalvey took a share of the two points on offer.

Moynalvey: David Brennan, David Donoghue, Darren Brennan, Scott Tuite, Fearghal McCabe, Brian Harnan, William Mahady, Padraic Harnan (0-3, ’45 & 2f), Donal Smith, James Weldon (0-1), Stephen Donoghue, Shane Lenehan, Shaun Deering, Sean Duggan, Ray Ryan (0-5, 3f).
Subs used: Padraig Kelly for Ryan, Eoghan Murphy for Deering.
