Moynalvey secured a comprehensive 12 point victory over Gaeil Colmcille on a 3-12 to 0-9 score line in round 3 of the Junior ‘B’ FC at Bective on Sunday afternoon June 17th.

Moynalvey 3-12 Gaeil Colmcille 0-9

Moynalvey clocked up their first win of the Junior ‘B’ Championship when accounting for Gaeil Colmcille with a strong second half display. Despite the Kells men raising seven white flags in the opening period the sides were level at the break as Luke Duffy’s 31st minute goal left it 1-4 to 0-7. Moynalvey were slow to start the game as they had to wait until the 10th minute for their first score courtesy of wing forward David Durkan, by which stage their opponents had already hit two points. By the 20th minute the town side held a double score advantage, 0-4 to 0-2, with James Weldon accounting for Moynalvey’s second score of the afternoon. Kells were heading for the break with a three point advantage until Duffy’s piece of opportunism resulted in the first goal of the game when he buried from close range after a James Weldon point effort rebounded off the post into Duffy’s hands.

As they had done in the first half Gaeil Colmcille registered the first score of the second period. Ciaran Ennis restored parity between the sides in the 38th minute following neat interplay from Paul Conneely, James Weldon and Ciaran Colllins. Sixty seconds later Moynalvey took the lead for the first time when Duffy sent over and the men in maroon and white never looked back as the held the North Meath outfit to a single point over the remaining 21 minutes. Three points in as many minutes from Collins, Ennis and substitute Ger Fagan left Duffy’s goal between the sides. Collins added a further 0-2 to his tally with an effort from play and a placed ball before turning provider for Weldon who slotted home to the back of the net. Collins raised the third green flag of the game when he converted a penalty in the 55th minute after he had been fouled in the large rectangle. The North Meath men added their final score from a free kick with three minutes remaining before James Weldon pointed in the final minute leaving Moynalvey comfortable winners picking up their first two points of the championship campaign. Best for the winners were Willie Mahady, Paul Conneely, David Durkan and Ciaran Collins.
