Moynalvey progressed to the semi-final of the Ideal Bathrooms Junior ‘C’ Football Championship with a well deserved 6-10 to 0-10 victory over Nobber at Martry on Sunday afternoon August 21st.

Moynalvey 6-10 Nobber 0-10

Moynalvey started the game in whirlwind fashion, clocking up 1-5 without reply in the opening quarter. William Harnan opened the scoring in the 1st minute, with Anthony Brien (0-1), Alan Donnelly (0-1) and Ciaran Ennis (1-2) also opening their accounts. Nobber registered three points in a row between the 15th and 23rd minutes, and another purple patch saw them hit another trio of points between the 26th and 29th. A brace of points from Donnelly in the second quarter saw Moynalvey lead at the break on a 1-7 to 0-6 score line.

Moynalvey’s start to the second period was decisive to the outcome of the game, as they found the net a hat trick of times in the opening seven minutes of the half. The first attack saw good link up play from Darren Brennan and Ciaran Ennis set up Donnelly to fire home, Ennis himself found the back of the net two minutes later, before William Harnan dispatched the ball to the back of the Nobber net seven minutes in. The game was killed off as a contest with 15 minutes remaining when Moynalvey raised their 5th and 6th green flags of the afternoon when Ennis took his goal tally to four, to give Moynalvey a 6-8 to 0-8 lead. Both sides added 0-2 apiece over the remainder of the game, leaving Moynalvey’s goal power the difference between the sides. Best for Moynalvey were David Kane, Damien Dixon, Donal Smith, Alan Donnelly and top scorer Ennis.
