Moynalvey’s good form in the reserve league continued with a strong second half performance seeing them get the better of hosts Syddan on a 1-13 to 1-6 score line in this back B league fixture played in Syddan on Wednesday evening June 1st.

Syddan 1-6 Moynalvey 1-13

Having struggled to get going in the first half Moynalvey still only found themselves two points adrift of the home side at the break, 1-3 to 0-4. Moynalvey produced a superb second half performance outscoring their opponents 1-9 to 0-3 to run out seven point winners on a 1-13 to 1-6 score line, giving them their fourth win from five outings.

With Moynalvey struggling for any sort of form in the opening half it was home side Syddan that held a 1-3 to 0-2 advantage after 28 minutes. Syddan got off to the perfect start with Philip White finding the back of Moynalvey goalkeeper Giles Drum’s net after just five minutes for the game’s opening score. Sixty seconds later midfielder Peter Farrelly pointed to hand Syddan an early four point lead.

Ciaran Ennis opened Moynalvey’s account in the 8th minute when converting a free from out near the sideline. Syddan’s Peter Farrelly sent over a huge point from way out the field in the 17th minute to leave the score 1-2 to 0-1. Another Ennis free in the 25th minute was countered three minutes later by Syddan full forward Cathal Dardis. Good build up play from Ciaran Ennis, James O’Neill and Shaun Deering saw Anthony Brien point for Moynalvey’s first score from play in the 30th minute. Ennis clipped over a point from play injury time to leave the half time score
1-3 to 0-4.

A point from Syddan midfielder Robert Farrelly within a minute of the restart left the goal between the sides. Syddan would only register a further two points before the full time whistle, while Moynalvey added 1-9 to their tally. Moynalvey ‘keeper Giles Drum pulled off a couple of fantastic saves in the second period to deny Syddan a couple of goal opportunities. Moynalvey’s second half points came from Darragh Branigan (2), Brian Conneely (2), Paul Conneely (2), James O’Neill (2) and Anthony Brien. The goal came in the 42nd minute when a point attempt from substitute Brian Conneely rebounded off the upright into the arms of Gary Crowley who was left with the simple task of tapping home to an empty net from two yards out.

Best for Moynalvey in that second half performance were Giles Drum, Anthony Brien, Johnny Carey, Darragh Branigan, Dominic O’Brien and the Conneely brothers Paul & Brian.
