Moynalvey suffered their fourth loss in their fifth outing of the Division 2 B League when going down at the hands of home side Ratoath on a 2-13 to 1-11 score line at Sean Eiffe Park  on Monday evening 12th May.

Ratoath 2-13 Moynalvey 1-11

Despite leading for the majority of the first half, Moynalvey found themselves two points behind their opponents at the interval on a 1-8 to 1-6 score line. It was Moynalvey who registered the opening score of the game in the 2nd minute through the boot of William Harnan, however twenty minutes later the men in maroon and white lost their full forward to injury. Moynalvey led by two points at this stage, 1-5 to 0-6, with the goal coming from youngster Sean Duggan, who top scored for Moynalvey with 1-2 to his name. Ratoath scored a point and a goal in the 24th and 25th minutes respectively to turn around the two point deficit into a two point lead with five minutes of the half remaining. Both sides added a point apiece before the half time whistle, with Moynalvey’s effort coming from midfielder Brian Conneely after being assisted by a quick free by Robbie Quinlan.

As it was at the break, the majority of the second period was a two point game with just two points between the sides with two minutes remaining. The loss of Harnan proved to be a major loss to the Moynalvey forward line as they had to work harder for scores in comparison to their opponents. No more than two points separated the sides at any time in the second period up until the 58th minute, when the Moynalvey rearguard was left exposed as they pushed forward in search of scores and Ratoath took full advantage, when the ball was worked forward to their full forward to blast to the back of the Moynalvey net past ‘keeper Ollie Regan, giving the host side a five point winning margin on a 2-13 to 1-11 score line and securing the two points on offer.
