Moynalvey were condemned to their fourth defeat in as many outings when losing out to Donaghmore/Ashbourne in round 4 of the Division 2 B League on Saturday evening May 18th in Moynalvey.

Moynalvey 1-11 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-11

The visitors started the brighter of the two sides, racing into a three point lead after only 5 minutes. Moynalvey had the margin back to a single point following points from Paul Conneely and Ken Hyland, before Donaghmore/Ashbourne struck for the opening goal of the game in the 19th minute from centre half forward Declan Mulvey. Two minutes later the visitors lead was furthered to seven points when Brian Fitzgerald netted. A trio of Moynalvey points including a brace from full forward Ciaran Collins and a David Durkan effort left four between the sides after 29 minutes of play. Donaghmore/Ashbourne tagged on two more points before the half time whistle, leaving the two goals between the sides at the interval, 2-5 to 0-5.

Within 10 seconds of the restart the visitors split the posts once again courtesy of Brian Fitzgerald. Anthony Forde and Robert Quinlan fired over for Moynalvey, leaving five between the sides after 2 minutes of the second half. Another Fitzgerald effort and a point from Jamie Dwyer pushed Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s advantage out to double scores, 2-8 to 0-7 after 37 minutes of play. Moynalvey responded with a point from midfielder Brian Conneely and a second point of the evening from Anthony Forde. Mark Molyneaux fired over the black spot for the visitors, before Ken Hyland exchanged a point with Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s Danny Clarke, leaving the two goals between the sides once again, 2-10 to 0-10 with 53 minutes played. A period of Moynalvey pressure in the remaining seven minutes, which included a point from substitute Conor Egan and a superb individual goal from Anthony Forde brought the deficit to two points. Moynalvey’s revival came too late and a late point from Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s Kevin Fenton left a goal between the sides at the final whistle.
