Nobber prove too strong for Moynalvey

E-mail Print PDF

An understrength Moynalvey side suffered a disappointing A league defeat to a Nobber side for whom Brian Farrell scored 0 - 8 in this game played in Moynalvey on Wednesday, June 25th.

Moynalvey 0 - 7 Nobber 0 - 13

The first half was a tight affair with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions. Moynalvey points from John Donoghue (2), Robbie Quinlan (free), PJ Walsh and James Weldon left the scores tied at 0 - 5 each as the half entered the closing stages before 2 Brian Farrell frees handed Nobber a 0 - 7 to 0 - 5 interval advantage. Moynalvey should have gone into the break with a lead as PJ Walsh hit the Nobber crossbar when clean through on goal in the last play of the half.

Moynalvey worked a score through Brian Gilsenan on the resumption to narrow the deficit to the minimum before Nobber responded with 2 scores of their own to lead 0 - 9 to 0 - 6 with 20 minutes remaining. Nobber then lost a man to a straight red card but instead of weakening their position, this galvinised their team and they were to score 4 more points, 2 from frees and 2 from play before the game ended. Moynalvey, in response had a John Donoghue point from play but despite having plenty of possession, they lacked a cutting edge up front and were guilty of missing a number of close in frees which would have left the game far closer.

And so Nobber earned a deserved win whilst Moynalvey, for whom this is their first A league defeat since August 2006, have plenty to work on before their crucial Junior A championship game v St Brigids on Tuesday of next week.
