A very sluggish and disjointed performance resulted in Moynalvey losing their first game of the year in this Junior A championship game against Dunsany played in wet conditions in Summerhill on Tuesday, August 14th.

Moynalvey 0 - 9 Dunsany 0 - 12

This local derby was always going to be a tight affair and the first half proved just that with both teams going point for point leaving the half time score at 0 – 6 to 0 – 5 in favour of Dunsany, Moynalvey’s scores coming from Cathal Sheridan (3), Ciaran Collins and Robbie Quinlan.

The second half resumed in similarly tight fashion and after Dunsany extended their lead to 2 points, Moynalvey enjoyed a purple patch to score 3 points on the trot from Sheridan, James Weldon and John Donoghue to lead 0 – 8 to 0 – 7 with fifteen minutes to go.

Dunsany upped a gear at this stage however, and were causing the Moynalvey full back line numerous problems throughout the game with their tactic of long high ball into their full forward line. This reaped huge rewards with 4 points on the trot in the space of 8 minutes to push Dunsany 0 – 11 to 0 – 8 clear. Moynalvey narrowed the gap to 2 points again through Sheridan but Dunsany secured a hard fought and well deserved victory through a late pointed free to leave 3 points in it at the end. Moynalvey finished the game with 14 men after the late dismissal of Brian Conneely.

.

This victory leaves Dunsany with a chance of qualification providing they win their last game and other results go their way, whilst for Moynalvey, who still remain top of the group, a win or draw against St Brigids will secure qualification as winners of the group.
