Captains 1Jenkinstown Gaels went down to host side Bective/Dunsany on a 2-10 to 0-14 score line in this Coolrite U-19 C Football Championship game played at Bective on Saturday afternoon October 28th.

Bective/Dunsany 2-10
Jenkinstown Gaels 0-14

Although the first game of Group B of the U-19 C Football Championship, this was actually a round two game following the postponement of the round one games last weekend due to the inclement weather/unplayable pitches.

It was Bective/Dunsany who started the brightest here, opening up an early three points to no score lead. It was the eleventh minute before the Moynalvey/Blackhall Gaels outfit opened their account with a Vinny Walsh free. Sixty seconds later the same player fired over from play; and two minutes later the sides were level at 0-3 apiece with Liam Jennings converting a mark.

It was Jennings who pointed from play on the quarter hour mark, with Luke O’Halloran opening his account sixty seconds later to leave it 0-5 to 0-3 in favour of Jenkinstown Gaels.

Bective/Dunsany narrowed the gap to the minimum, but two Jenkinstown points from Kyle O’Malley and Luke O’Halloran left it 0-7 to 0-4 after twenty minutes. O’Malley’s effort could well have been a goal after Vinny Walsh found O’Malley in space with a good cross field ball, but for O’Malley’s drive at goal to be finger tipped over the bar by the Bective/Dunsany goalkeeper.

Two Bective/Dunsany points either side of a Charlie Mulligan point for Jenkinstown left it 0-8 to 0-6 with 27 minutes played. Then came the decisive moment of the first half, a goal for the home side, meaning they held a two point lead at half time, 1-7 to 0-8. Jenkinstown Gaels Group Befoere game v Bective Dunsany removebg preview

Further points for Bective/Dunsany early in the second half meant Jenkinstown Gaels were staring into a four point deficit. But it was the Moynalvey/Blackhall combination who went on to dominate the third quarter rattling off the next five points without reply to take a one point lead with ten minutes remaining, 0-13 to 1-9. The points coming from Vinny Walsh (2f), Barry Walsh, Liam Jennings and Charlie Mulligan.

A Bective/Dunsany free in the 52nd minute drew the sides level, 0-13 to 1-10 and a tense final fifteen minutes or so ensued.

With Bective/Dunsany losing a man to a red card, Jenkinstown failed to utilise the extra man to their advantage and it looked like Bective/Dunsany were going to snatch the win with a free late into additional time, but two the relief of the Jenkinstown Gaels supporters it went wide.

However, a defensive error from the kickout left Bective/Dunsany’s midfielder through on goal and he made no mistake firing past Jenkinstown ‘keeper Colin Byrne for the decisive match winning score. Jenkinstown added a late Davy Sheeran free to leave the final score 2-10 to 0-14 to Bective/Dunsany.

Best for Jenkinstown were David Regan, David Sheeran, Max Kennedy, Liam Jennings and Luke O’Halloran.
