Moynalvey claimed the Under 16 Division 1A title with victory over Dunshaughlin in this long awaited final played in Pairc Tailteann on Saturday September 5th.

Both sides had a long wait for this eagerly awaited contest as the semi-final took place back at the end of June. Moynalvey, aided by the wind opened up a commanding lead with James Kelly hitting 1-1 within the opening 4 minutes; the goal coming after an attempted clearance was blocked down leaving Kelly with the simplest of tasks of palming into the net. A second goal came in the 12th minute when some good interchanges around the middle of the park led to James Kelly setting up Cillian O’Sullivan to slam the ball to the back of the net. In the 20th minute Kelly registered his first score from play from a seemingly impossible angle to the right hand side of the posts near the end line. The third green flag was raised in the 25th minute when roles were reversed as O’Sullivan this time turned provider for Kelly who calmly slotted the ball past the Dunshaughlin keeper for the final score of the half leaving Moynalvey ahead on a score of 3-5 to 0-2.

.

Moynalvey could only muster 2 more points in the second half but their devastating display of attacking football in the opening 30 minutes sealed the victory. James Kelly’s personal tally of 2-7 was ultimately the difference between the sides, aided by the defence splitting runs of Cillian O’Sullivan & Padraic Harnan. Proof of strong defensive displays from Shane Browne, Brian Harnan & Anthony Forde was evident in the fact that Dunshaughlin could only muster 2 points from play for the duration of the game.
