Moynalvey advanced to the final of this year’s U16 Div 1A with a magnificent team display against a very strong Round Towers team.

Moynalvey 6-15 Round Towers 3-08

Moynalvey started brightly and raced into a convincing early lead with quick goals from Cian Gorman and James Kelly, these along with points from Kelly and a great point from a fifty for Padraic Harnan put Moynalvey 9 points to the good after 15 minutes. However, Round Towers grew stronger as the half progressed and two quick goals brought them right back into it. Moynalvey were struggling at this stage with a double injury to Gorman and Anto Forde knocking the team off balance. But Gorman returned to the game with a bang to net his second goal of the evening, this along with Cillian O’ Sullivan first point of the evening gave the lads a lead of 3-05 to 2-03 at half time.

Moynalvey increased their lead straight after half time as James Kelly netted for the second time, however Towers responded with a goal of their own. The teams swapped scores for the next ten minutes until Gorman popped up to finally break Towers spirit with his third goal of the game. Moynalvey dominated the remainder of the game and cruised to the final with 16 point victory. However the score line does flatter Moynalvey as this match was a very tough contest to which Towers contributed much. Moynalvey had great performances from all over the field, but the highlight of the evening had to be the return of Cillian O’ Sullivan, who scored 7 points from play. Moynalvey will now meet Dunshauglin in the final.

Team: C O’ Malley, C Egan, S Browne, B Harnan, C McCabe, A Forde, D Hoban, S Burke (0-1), D Brennan (0-1), R Fagan, J Kelly (2-2), P Harnan (0-3), E Ryan, C Gorman (4-0), C O’ Sullivan (0-7)

Subs: JF Martin for Fagan, E Walsh (0-1) for Forde, F McCabe for Ryan, D Duffy for Gorman, D Brannigan for Hoban
