Moynalvey and St. Patricks proved evenly matched as they drew in round 2 of the Seamus Connolly Catering Junior ‘B’ Football Championship at Skryne on Monday evening June 11th.

Moynalvey 0-14 St. Patrick’s 1-11

Having been postponed last Friday due to the inclement weather conditions this 2nd round tie of Group A of the Junior ‘B’ FC eventually went ahead in perfect conditions at Skryne yesterday evening. Moynalvey found themselves two points in arrears after nine minutes of play after St. Pats found the range from play and a free. A brace of points from wing half forward James Weldon in the 11th and 12th minutes had the side’s level. Just on the quarter hour mark Moynalvey took the lead for the first time when a William Harnan effort at goal was deflected over the cross bar by the Pat’s keeper. A trio of points from the Stamullen men saw them take a two point lead with six minutes of the opening half remaining. However a hat trick of Moynalvey points
from Ciaran Collins, James Weldon & Ciaran Ennis left them a point to the good at the interval, 0-6 to 0-5.

Substitute Robbie Quinlan entered the fray at the break for the injured William Harnan and immediately his fresh legs paid dividends as he pointed the opening score of the second period after 40 seconds. Two minutes later Alan Donnelly opened his account for the evening, leaving three between the sides once again. The East Meath men narrowed the deficit to the minimum before taking the lead for a third time when they registered the only goal of the game in the 38th minute.  Moynalvey had a chance of their own to raise a green flag when they were awarded a penalty, but Ciaran Ennis’ effort was well saved by the Pat’s keeper and Luke Duffy fired over the rebound leaving a solitary point between the sides once again.

Quinlan’s scoring exploits saw him find the target for a second and third time in the 43rd and 47th minutes with a Collins effort sandwiched in between, leaving the men in maroon and white two points to the good, 0-12 to 1-7. Pat’s hit four unanswered points in a seven minute spell, leaving them two points ahead with only three minutes remaining and heading for he victory. However two pointed frees from Collins, the second a massive effort from distance with the last play of the game saw Moynalvey take a share of the spoils.
