Moynalvey secured a merited two point win against Castletown in Division 3 of the B League on a 1-12 to 2-7 score line at Moynalvey on Monday evening May 30th.

Moynalvey 1-12 Castletown 2-7

Castletown opened the scoring in the 1st minute but had to wait until the 15th for their second and final score of the half. During this period the home side had registered two points of their own courtesy of Brian Conneely and Ciaran Ennis. Moynalvey hit six unanswered scores over the remainder of the opening period with a Ger Fagan effort and 0-5 from top scorer Ciaran Ennis, including an exquisite free from an acute angle near the sideline. The sides left the field at the interval with the score reading 0-8 to 0-2 in favour of the home side.

Almost immediately after the break Castletown reduced the deficit to 0-3 when they raised the first green flag on the evening. Another Ennis effort and a goal from Anthony Brien in the 46th minute helped Moynalvey regain their six point advantage on a 1-9 to 1-3 score line. A further two points from Ennis meant Moynalvey held a commanding eight point lead with six minutes remaining. However due to a bad injury to a Castletown player a substantial amount of injury time was added. During this time Castletown scored 1-4 with Moynalvey’s only score coming from substitute PJ Walsh. Resolute defending from the Moynalvey rear guard in the final few minutes resulted in them holding out for a hard fought two point victory against a gallant Castletown side. The teams clash again in the Junior ‘C’ Football Championship next Saturday evening.
