Moynalvey were left to rue the concession of too many goals as they went down to Trim on a score line of 4-11 to 1-8 in the 4th round of the B league played in the new Trim GAA grounds on Monday evening 17th May.

Trim 4-11 Moynalvey 1-8

The first half was a tit for tat affair as the sides matched each other in the scoring stakes for much of the opening quarter. Darren Brennan opened the scoring for Moynalvey when a surging run from the half back resulted in him splitting the posts for the opening score of the game in the 4th minute. Trim made it 0-3 to 0-1 in the 10th minute and continued to hold the lead as the sides traded scores with a brace of points for Moynalvey coming from Brian Conneely and a superb effort from substitute William Harnan leaving it 0-4 to 0-3 after 15 minutes. Moynalvey took the lead in the 20th minute when Harnan fielded a high ball in from Ray Ryan and finished to the net. Sixty seconds later Moynalvey were two points to the good when Harnan once again split the uprights from almost the same position as his first effort. However the two point advantage was reversed at the break when Moynalvey suffered a sucker punch as Trim pointed; and then hit the net for the first time in the final seconds of the opening period leaving the half time score reading 1-6 to 1-4 in favour of the town side.

Upon the resumption, the home side furthered their advantage when adding 1-1 within the opening six minutes of the half. Moynalvey responded five minutes later with their first score of the second period when centre forward Ciaran Ennis slotted over. Moynalvey cut the deficit to four points on the three quarter mark with a Harnan free kick and Ray Ryan flicking over a Giles Drum pass in the 46th minute. However as Moynalvey pushed forward in a bid to further narrow the margin they could only add a further Conneely point, as a series of wasted efforts in front of goal at one end and the loss of their shape at the back resulted in Trim hitting a further 2-3 in the final ten minutes leaving the final score line reading 4-11 to 1-8 to Trim.

Although a disappointing defeat Moynalvey will take heart from the performances of youngsters William Harnan, Darren Brennan & Anthony Forde.
