Gaeil Colmcille 1-11 Moynalvey 1-8

Playing into a tricky breeze in the opening half it was the home side who opened the scoring in the 13th minute.  Moynalvey opened their account for the evening when Fearghal McCabe sent over three minutes later. Parity between the sides was short lived as the Kells men forged ahead once again two minutes later. A Ray Ryan point effort fell short and was spilled by the Gaeil Colmcille ‘keeper, with Ger Fagan on hand to finish the loose ball to the back of the net, leaving Moynalvey 1-1 to 0-2 to the good after 20 minutes of play. Two minutes later Moynalvey’s advantage was furthered when McCabe sent over his second point of the evening. Another Kells point was quickly followed by a goal leaving Gaeil Colmcille a point ahead after 25 minutes of play. Both sides finished the half with a point apiece, with Moynalvey’s effort coming from a Ray Ryan free, leaving the home side a point ahead at the break, 1-4 to 1-3.

Four minutes after the restart the sides were level when Moynalvey centre half back Paul Conneely pointed from close range. Two minutes later a shot at goal from Ray Ryan was palmed over the cross bar by the Gaeil Colmcille ‘keeper putting Moynalvey ahead once again. This proved to be Moynalvey’s last score for a 17 minute period as Gaeil Colmcille rattled off six unanswered points, giving them a five point advantage with 10 minutes remaining. Moynalvey outscored their opponents three points to one in the remaining minutes, leaving Gaeil Colmcille holding on for a three point win on a 1-11 to 1-8 score line.
