Moynalvey went down to Na Fianna by a single point in round 8 of the A league played at Enfield on Thursday evening July 22nd.

Na Fianna 0-14 Moynalvey 1-10

The opening 25 minutes of this game was a tit for tat affair with the sides’ level on 0-5 apiece, with Moynalvey’s scores coming from Brian Gilsenan, Brian Conneely, John Flannery and Mark O’Sullivan (2). A number of goal chances were wasted by both sides during this period, before the only green flag of the evening was raised in the 26th when a breaking ball was calmly finished to the net by Brian Conneely. A brace of Willie Byrne points in the dying minutes gave Moynalvey a five point interval lead on a score line of 1-7 to 0-5.

Within 12 minutes of the resumption Na Fianna had taken the lead when hitting seven points without reply. Moynalvey had to wait until the 19th minute to register their first score of the half when substitute Anthony Brien weighed in with a point. Na Fianna restored their two point advantage within sixty seconds, before Moynalvey were given a lifeline in the 22nd minute when a penalty was awarded, only to see Paul Weldon’s effort from the spot fly over the bar. As the sides traded another score apiece, Moynalvey failed to reel in the one point deficit and the end score line read 0-14 to 1-10 in favour of the Enfield/Baconstown side.
