Jenkinstown Minors Open League with Win

Jenkinstown Gaels got their Div. 2 minor football league campaign off to a winning start in Batterstown on Sunday. Playing with the wind in the first half the Gaels put in a workman-like performance to lead at half time on a scoreline of 1-5 to 3 points.  A Robert Lawless goal in the second quarter had put a much better reflection on the scoreboard of the how the game had been going in that first half.

Jenkinstown Gaels1-10 St. Patricks 0-6

Even though St Pats scored only three points in that first half they always looked threatening whenever they got close to Eoghain Kiernan’s goal. However a resolute defence kept them at bay and protected the 5 point lead for the break.

Home supporters were a little concerned with their team facing into the wind for the second half and were more so after the first three attacks yielded no score.  However the players thankfully did not panic and the team deservedly won the game on a final scoreline of 1-8 to 0-6.

While the home team could probably have won by bigger margin a win in the first outing of the season was a satisfactory result especially in the difficult handling conditions that prevailed.

Jenkinstown Gaels: Eoghain Kiernan, Charlie Staunton, Eoin Mitchell, Fergus Ryan, Eamonn McLoughlin,  James Kelly,  Colm O’Connor (0-1), Robert Lawless (1-0), Hugh Smith, John O’Brien, David McLoughlin (0-3), Michael Burke, Liam Farrell (0-1), Michael Solon, Patrick Kelly (0-1).
