This final round Group A game of the Feis Cup saw Moynalvey pick up their fourth win from their seven outings, while despite the loss Summerhill progress to a semi-final meeting with Wolfe Tones thanks to their head to head earlier round victory over Gaeil Colmcille.

Moynalvey welcomed back four county players to their line up, hurlers David Reilly & Mark O’Sullivan and footballers Padraic Harnan and Cillian O’Sullivan, while Summerhill had Ronan Ryan back in their side.

Moynalvey started the game brightly with points from a David McLoughlin free and David Reilly, while Summerhill’s opening score came from Conor Frayne in the 4th minute.

A Cillian O’Sullivan free was countered by a Diarmuid McCabe point from a mark with Mark O’Sullivan opening his account five minutes later to leave it double scores 0-4 to 0-2 after 13 minutes.

A Conor Lyons free left it 0-4 to 0-3 as referee Andrew Smith blew the whistle for the first half water break.

Summerhill failed to score in the second quarter with Moynalvey adding a further three points all from the boot of David McLoughlin to leave the home side 0-7 to 0-3 in front at half time.

David Larkin and Cillian O’Sullivan traded scores soon after the resumption which were followed by a pair of Conor Lyons frees reducing the deficit to two, 0-8 to 0-6 eight minutes into the second half.

Having been tightly marked by fellow county player Ronan Ryan, Cillian O’Sullivan was given the space to clip over a point from play on the quarter hour mark to leave the score 0-9 to 0-6 at the second half water break.

David McLoughlin and Conor Frayne traded frees before Moynalvey goal poacher Ciaran Harnan scored the game’s only goal in the 50th minute to extend Moynalvey’s advantage to six, 1-10 to 0-7.

Padraic Harnan split the uprights with a lofty left foot effort before his cousin David Larkin fired over the point of the game from distance a minute later at the other end.

Both sides added a further pair of points each, Summerhill’s from substitute Kevin Ryan and a 45 by Diarmuid McCabe, while Moynalvey’s came from the O’Sullivan brothers Cillian and Mark to leave Moynalvey well deserved six point winners in this local derby on a 1-13 to 0-10 score line.
