Moynalvey comfortably overcame visitors St. Colmcilles on a 1-18 to 2-4 score line in the JMB Sportsfield Services sponsored Division 2 B League played on Monday evening July 30th.

Moynalvey 1-18 St. Colmcilles 2-4

Moynalvey’s fifth win from eight outings leaves them sitting in third position in the Division 2 reserve league table with only one game remaining. St. Colmcilles were first to point in the very first minute of this game, but five unanswered points from Moynalvey’s Ciaran Ennis (0-3), Donal Smith and Luke Duffy saw the home side lead by 0-5 to 0-1 after the first quarter. St. Colmcilles’ second score arrived in the 17th minute when they won possession in the middle third and bore down on the Moynalvey goal finishing with a rasping effort which left Moynalvey keeper Conor Egan with little chance. Despite narrowing the deficit to the minimum this proved to be the Cilles last score of the opening period. A goal from Alan Donnelly in the 21st minute was the perfect response from Moynalvey and a trio of points from top marksman Ciaran Ennis left the home side with a 1-8 to 1-1 lead at the break.

As they did in the first half it was St. Colmcilles who opened the scoring in the second period with a point after three minutes. Luke Duffy hit his second point of the evening in the 36th minute and two minutes later a blocked clearance by Duffy allowed Ciaran Ennis to fire over, pushing Moynalvey’s advantage to eight points, 1-10 to 1-2. A converted free for St. Colmciles was followed by another five unanswered points for Moynalvey from Luke Duffy, Brian Conneely, Alan Donnelly, Ciaran Collins and Ciaran Ennis left the score reading 1-15 to 1-3 with 10 minutes remaining. The seasiders posted their fourth point of the evening in the 51st minute with Luke Duffy replying with a point for Moynalvey three minutes later. Cilles raised their second green flag of the evening when a breaking ball close to goal was volleyed home past substitute Moynalvey keeper Giles Drum in the 56th minute. A ninth point of the evening for top scorer Ciaran Ennis and a Robbie Quinlan effort rounded off the scoring for the evening leaving Moynalvey comfortable 11 point winners over their East Meath opponents.

Best for Moynalvey were David Durkan, Anthony Brien, Donal Smith, Luke Duffy and Ciaran Ennis.
