Moynalvey left themselves with a mountain to climb after giving Oldcastle too much of an early second half advantage in this Division 3 B League game played in Oldcastle on Thursday evening, July 2nd.

Oldcastle 1-15 Moynalvey 1-10

.

Allowing the home side build up such a big lead early in the second half proved to be Moynalvey’s downfall as they left themselves with too much of a deficit to claw back. The opening half was a tight low scoring affair with the sides tied on three points apiece after 26 minutes, Moynalvey’ s scores coming from P.J Walsh, Ciaran Collins & Daniel Treacy. However Oldcastle hit a purple patch rattling off four points in as many minutes, leaving the score reading 0-7 to 0-3 in favour of the Cavan border side at the interval.

.

After the break Oldcastle furthered their lead to nine points, when within five minutes of the restart they added 1-2 to their tally. Over the remaining 25 minutes, some positional switches & substitutions buoyed Moynalvey on; and in the 52nd minute they were given real hope when substitute Luke Duffy expertly finished to the net, leaving only 2 points between the sides. Despite Moynalvey’s valiant efforts over the final minutes, Oldcastle held on to prevail by 5 points.
