Moynalvey’s second string suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of St. Ultan’s in this Junior C Championship game played in Simonstown on Wednesday evening 10th June.

.

Moynalvey 1-5 St. Ultan’s 2-15

.

Fielding without a number of regular starters & facing a strong St. Ultan’s team this was always going to be a struggle for Moynalvey. By the 4th minute Ultan’s had opened up a two point lead, before Moynalvey eventually found their feet, coming within two points of their opponents after Denis Hoban & Giles Drumm had pointed, only to loose their full back Paul Conneely to a red card in the 20th minute. With the advantage of the extra man, Ulltan’s went on to lead 0-8 to 0-2 at half time.

.

Things got no better for the 14 men of Moynalvey after the interval. Shane Collins added a pointed free, only for Ultans to break up the field & goal twice within three minutes, leaving them 2-10 to 0-3 ahead after 12 minutes of the half. With the contest over at this stage, Moynalvey’s valiant effort over the remainder of the game saw Shane Collins converting a penalty & two P.J Walsh points. However these ended up being consolation scores, as St. Ultan’s coasted to a well deserved victory on an end score of 2-15 to 1-5.

.

Best for Moynalvey were Stephen White, William Mahady & P. J Walsh.
