Three point win over Donaghmore/Ashbourne secures spot in the Reserve Cup Final

V Dona Ash Reserve Cup Semi FinalMoynalvey secured their place in the final of the Div. 3 Reserve cup with a three point win over Donaghmore/Ashbourne in the semi-final played at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Saturday evening 1st October.

It was Donaghmore/Ashbourne who were first on the score board with a brace of points from Simon Purcell and Oisin Grayson.

Moynalvey’s first score came in the third minute from Sean Duggan which was followed sixty seconds later with a Shaun Deering point to draw the sides level, 0-2 apiece.

A second Shaun Deering point gave Moynalvey the lead for the first time, which was doubled six minutes later with a Vinny Walsh free, 0-4 to 0-2.

Two Ashbourne frees had the sides level, 0-4 apiece, with 13 minutes played.

Three Vinny Walsh points were countered by a Daragh Gleeson free to leave the score board read 0-7 to 0-5 to the home side with 20 minutes played.

Moynalvey finished off the half with three unanswered points from Vinny Walsh (2) and Sean Duggan to leave it double scores at half time, 0-10 to 0-5.

Moynalvey continued where they left off the first half with the first two points of the second half through Sean Duggan and Vinny Walsh.

It wasn’t until the tenth minute of the half when Donaghmore/Ashbourne troubled the score board with a pointed free from Daragh Gleeson, with Moynalvey’s Vinny Walsh responding seven minutes later leaving it 0-13 to 0-6 with thirteen minutes remaining.

While Moynalvey looked in a comfortable position at that stage, the visitors reeled off the next five points without reply to leave two between the sides with 62 minutes played, 0-13 to 0-11.

Vinny Walsh wrapped up the game’s scoring with a point deep in additional time to give Moynalvey the three point win.

The win sets up a final meeting against Oldcastle who accounted for St. Patricks in Saturday’s other semi-final.

Best for the winners here were Chris O’Malley, Brian Harnan, Sean Duggan, Eoghan Commins and the game’s top scorer Vinny Walsh.
