Moynalvey and Ballinabrackey shared the spoils on 0-12 to 1-9 score line at Boyne Park Ballinabrackey in round three of the Div. 4 Premier Football Championship on Saturday evening May 30th.

Ballinabrackey 0-12
Moynalvey 1-9

The wet conditions made for plenty of slipping and handling errors throughout this contest, with scores at a premium.

It was the home side who struck first with two points from play from lively corner forward Barry Thompson.

Moynalvey’s Vinny Walsh was denied a goal with a good save by Ballinabrackey goalkeeper Ciaran Cummins.

Moynalvey opened their account in the 14th minute with a Vinny Walsh free which found its way over via assistance from the upright.

Four minutes later Moynalvey lost midfielder Sean Duggan to injury, who was replaced by Paul Brennan.

Moynalvey midfielder Darren Brennan blazed a goal chance just over the crossbar, which was followed by a Vinny Walsh free, leaving it 0-3 to 0-2 to the visitors after 22 minutes.

Ballinabrackey midfielder Leo Culllen levelled matters when sending over in the 26th minute for his side’s first score since the 12th minute.

Substitute Paulk Brennan fisted over from close range when perhaps another goal chance was on, followed by a Craig Gilsenan point to leave the half time score 0-5 to 0-3 in favour of Moynalvey.

Points from Moynalvey’s Shaun Deering and Ciaran Harnan either side of a Barry Thompson point for Ballinabrackey within the first three minutes of the second half left it 0-7 to 0-4.

The only goal of the game came five minutes into the half when Ciaran Cummins failed to deal with a fluffed Craig Gilsenan point attempt and the ball fumbled towards the goal line, to push Moynalvey’s advantage out to six points.

Two minutes later the home side were reduced to 14 men following a red card dismissal.

The goal and the sending off seemed to ignite the Ballinabrackey fight and the home side took more of a foothold in the game, scoring the next five points. Three Gavin Quinn points and two from Dean McNamee left just the minimum between the sides with 48 minutes played, 1-7 to 0-9.

A Craig Gilsenan free for Moynalvey broke the Ballinabrackey scoring sequence in the 50th minute.

A brilliantly struck Dean McNamee ’45 narrowed the margin to one again, but Moynalvey’ Paul Corcoran replied with a point two minutes later to leave it 1-9 to 0-10 with 54 minutes played.
Just as they had done for the majority of the second half it was Gavin Quinn and Dean McNamee who rounded off the game’s scoring to level matters, 0-12 to 1-9.

A combination of missed Moynalvey goal chances, a couple of brilliant Chris O’Malley saves and 14-man Ballinabrackey’s final quarter come back saw the sides split the two points on offer.
