Moynalvey went down to Donaghmore/Ashbourne by the minimum in round 6 of the Meath Cleaning Supplies Div. 3 Premier Championship at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Thursday evening September 9^th.

Moynalvey lost their fifth game from six outings leaving them rooted to the bottom of the division three table following their second one point defeat of the campaign, this one at the hands of Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s third team.

Moynalvey will feel aggrieved not to have taken something from this game having had plenty of opportunities but for some wayward shooting and a lack of composure in front of the posts especially in the final quarter.

Moynalvey got off to a flying start with the first three points of the game from James Weldon (2) and Shaun Deering. Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s first score came in the 10^th minute when Ciaran Beirne scored their first goal to level matters.

A Cian Field point for the visitors put them a point up at the first water break, 1-1 to 0-3.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s Donagh O’Donnell pointed a free after the break, but it proved to be their last score of the opening half.

Four unanswered Moynalvey points from Darragh Branigan, Shane Lenehan, William Mahady and James Weldon left the home side two points to the good at half time, 0-7 to 1-2.

Two minutes after the restart a David Donnelly point for the Ashbourne side had the margin down to the minimum.

A brace of Moynalvey points, the first from James Weldon and the second from Darragh Branigan put the home side three points to the good at the second half water break, 0-9 to 1-3.

Immediately after the water break Donaghmore/Ashbourne struck for their second goal to draw the sides level for a third time.

The goal was quickly followed by a point to give Donaghmore/Ashbourne the lead for a second time in the game.

Two Shaun Deering frees either side of an Ashbourne point James Brady had the sides level again with 52 minutes played.

Two further Donaghmore/Ashbourne points either side of a Moynalvey point from substitute James O’Neill meant the Moores held on out for their one point victory.

Best for the losers were Conor Egan, Darragh Branigan, Stephen Donoghue, William Mahady and James Weldon.
