Premier Champ Team Photo ExtendedA strong second half performance by Moynalvey's second team saw them overcome Clonard in round one of the Div. 3 Premier Championship at St. Finians Park Clonard on Sunday morning 4th July.

Clonard 2-6
Moynalvey 2-13

Moynalvey's top scorer Shaun Deering opened his side's account with the first of his eight points in the first minute.

Clonard equalised a minute later before taking the lead when a long ball back in off Ray Ryan's kickout was raced onto by David Rowley to put the ball past Ryan into the net, leaving the score board reading 1-1 to 0-1 after six minutes.

James Weldon pointed for the visitors in the 11th minute with Clonard replying with a brace of points from David Rowley and Eoghan Connolly leaving it 1-3 to 0-2 at the quarter hour mark.

However the home side failed to score again in the first half with Moynalvey finding their way in the game to reel off five points without reply.

The first of those five points came from Shaun Deering to leave it 1-3 to 0-3 at the first water break. The second quarter saw Deering add a further three points along with a Sean Duggan point, leaving Moynalvey a point to the good at half time, 0-7 to 1-3.

Four minutes after the restart Deering registered his sixth point, his second from play. Clonard responded with a Rowley free and a well finished Brandon Martin goal to retake the lead for just the second time, 2-4 to 0-8.

Two Moynalvey points from Deering and veteran Stephen Donoghue drew the sides level before Donoghue followed up by blasting the ball to the Clonard net past ‘keeper Paul Sheridan to put Moynalvey back in front in the 44th minute.

A Rowley free on the three quarter hour mark left the score board read 1-10 to 2-5 at the 2nd water break.

The final quarter saw Moynalvey outscore the home side 1-3 to 0-1, with a goal and a brilliant point from distance by Sean Duggan along with points from Shaun Deering and Stephen Donoghue to leave the full time score 2-13 to 2-6.
