Nobber ran out eleven point winners over Moynalvey in this Junior ‘B’ Football Championship fixture played at Kilberry on Sunday evening 22nd April.

Moynalvey 1-13
Nobber 4-15

The final score line is a little harsh on Moynalvey as this game was played in a competitive manner with just five points between the sides with five minutes remaining. Nobber finished strongly registering 1-3 in the final minutes to add that extra bit of gloss to the winning margin.

The first score of the game went Nobber’s way in the 3rd minute when the umpire deemed the ball had bounced in past Moynalvey goal keeper David Brennan’s goal line for a fortuitous goal.

Matt Brennan landed Moynalvey’s opening score in the 4th minute, followed by points from Nobber’s Richard Shiels and Moynalvey’s James O’Neill. A second Nobber goal left it 2-1 to 0-2 after eight minutes.

Two scores within a minute from Moynalvey’s Ciaran Ennis had the margin reduced to just a point following a ’45 and a fisted goal from a rebounded shot at goal, leaving it 2-1 to 1-3 eleven minutes in.

1-3 without reply saw Nobber extend their lead to seven points, before points from Moynalvey’s Shaun Deering and Ciaran Ennis left five between the sides after 22 minutes, 3-4 to 1-5.

Two fine saves within as many minutes from Moynalvey net minder David Brennan denied Nobber further goals in the 25th and 26th minutes.

Points from Cathal Fox and Ricahrd Shiels pushed Nobber’s advantage to seven, with Moynalvey responding with three points from James O’Neill, Darragh Branigan and Shaun Deering to leave the half time score reading 3-6 to 1-8.

Five minutes after the restart a point from Moynalvey’s Sean Duggan narrowed the deficit to three. A Richard Shiels point was countered by Moynalvey’s O’Neill, before another fine save from Moynalvey goal keeper David Brennan once again
denied Nobber another goal in the 40th minute.

Nobber points from Ricahrd Shiels, Karl Casserly and Alan Farrell, with Moynalvey responding with points from Matt Brennan and Ciaran Ennis left just four between the sides with nine minutes remaining, 3-10 to 1-12.

However Nobber finished the game strongly posting 1-5 to Moynalvey’s one point in the final 10 minutes to record a 4-15 to 1-13 opening round win in the Junior ‘B’ Football Championship.
