The Moynalvey second team rounded off a good weekend for the club when defeating Rathkenny by 9 points in this Junior C championship game played in Walterstown on Sunday evening, June 15th.

Moynalvey 1 - 16 Rathkenny 1 - 7

Moynalvey opened the scoring through 2 Ciaran Ennis frees and an excellent score from wing back Benny Dixon left it 0 – 3 to 0 – 0 after 10 minutes. Rathkenny did come more into the game at that stage but their 3 points were responded to by 5 Moynalvey efforts from Ennis, Ray Ryan (3) and Ger McHale to leave the half time score at 0 – 8 to 0 – 3 in Moynalvey’s favour.

Rathkenny started the second half well and a fisted goal early on brought them to within 2 points. The game was nip and tuck for the next 15 minutes as Moynalvey points from Shane Reilly, Ennis (2 frees) and McHale were offset by 4 Rathkenny points to leave the score at 0 – 12 to 1- 7 as the game entered the final quarter.

However, Moynalvey went on to dominate the final quarter as 2 more Ennis points, a goal from Ray Ryan after substitute Luke Duffy’s initial shot was saved, and further white flags from Ryan and Reilly left Moynalvey handsome victors in the end.

This result leaves Moynalvey requiring one more win from their remaining 2 group games to guarantee a spot in the quarter finals.
