Moynalvey’s two point win over fellow strugglers Walterstown ensured their Junior ‘B’ status for another year in this Group A Final Round game played at Skryne on Friday night August 13th.

Moynalvey 0-13 Walterstown 2-5

Moynalvey led for two thirds of the opening period but found themselves a point in arrears at the break, with the men in maroon and white guilty of some wayward shooting and not taking their goal chances in the opening half.

It was Moynalvey who troubled the score keeper first, wing back Anthony Brien pointing after just 20 seconds. Walterstown opened their account in the 3rd minute, but Moynalvey went ahead again with two points from corner forward Sean Duggan. A second Walterstown point from their tricky No. 13 left the minimum between the sides before Shaun Deering doubled Moynalvey’s advantage, leaving it 0-4 to 0-2 after 18 minutes.

Walterstown went in front for the 1st time with the first of their two goals coming in the 21st minute when a goal mouth scramble saw a shot at goal blocked, then the ball hit the cross bar before it was eventually palmed to Giles Drum’s net from close range. Moynalvey’s Shaun Deering added a free just before the half time whistle to leave it 1-3 to 0-5 in favour of the Blacks at the break.

Things looked bleak for Moynalvey when Walterstown added 1-1 within two minutes of the restart, however these scores proved to be Walterstown’s last of the game. Moynalvey completed the eight point turnaround to win by two points with the experienced quintet of Padraig Donoghue, John Donoghue, Robbie Kiernan & Brian Conneely instrumental in Moynalvey’s dominance of the second half. Moynalvey’s second half points came from Shaun Deering, Brian Conneely (2), John Donoghue (3), Robbie Kiernan & Padraig Kelly.
