Moynalvey shipped a second successive heavy Junior ‘B’ Championship defeat in the space of 10 days, this time going down to Trim on a 5-15 to 0-8 score line at Kildalkey on Sunday afternoon August 7th.

Moynalvey 0-8 Trim 5-15

With the two points on offer virtually secured at half time as they led 2-9 to 0-3, the win sees Trim on the brink of qualification to the knockout stages while the loss sees Moynalvey facing a possible winner takes all battle against fellow strugglers Walterstown next Friday night in the final round group game.

The sides were for level for the only time five minutes into this contest with Trim having opened with a brace of points from Diarmuid Higgins and Ciaran Giblin, while Moynalvey’s response came from Shaun Deering and David Donoghue.

Further Trim points from Mikey Cullen & Giblin (2) saw the town side lead 0-5 to 0-2 after 12 minutes. The first of Trim’s five goals arrive in the 13th minute when two Moynalvey defenders jumped for the one ball which broke to Dimmy Higgins to fire past Moynalvey’s Eoin Maher.

Moynalvey’s Davy Donoghue sent over his second point in the 16th minute, which proved to be Moynalvey’s last of the half. Trim added 1-4 to their tally with first half scorer in chief Mikey Cullen raising the green flag along with points from Giblin and Higgins, leaving the half time score reading 2-9 to 0-3 in favour of Trim.

Within sixty seconds of the restart Moynalvey’s David Donoghue split the uprights for a third time. Having come on as a half time substitution Moynalvey’s David Kane found himself leaving the field again after four minutes when he was shown a black card for hauling down Cullen, the resultant penalty was slotted home; within sixty seconds corner forward Pet Farrell fisted home Trim’s third goal to kill the contest off completely, handing Trim a 17 point lead after 35 minutes on a 4-9 to 0-4 score line.

By the time Moynalvey would trouble the score keeper’s again when Brian Conneely pointed a free, Trim would have bagged a further 1-3, leaving it 5-12 to 0-5 after 43 minutes. Moynalvey’s Darragh Branigan and David Donoghue pointed to leave it 5-12 to 0-7 at the three quarter hour mark, while Brain Conneely added his side’s and the game’s final score to leave the full time score reading 5-15 to 0-8.

Moynalvey’s opening round win against St. Mary’s seems an eternity away now and following a couple of dismal results will have to recover before next Friday night when they take on fellow strugglers Walterstown in the final round group game.
