Moynalvey maintained their push for qualification to the knockout stages of the Junior ‘B’ Football Championship when overcoming the challenge of Duleek/Bellewstown on a 5-13 to 1-12 score line at Seneschalstown on Saturday evening June 20th.

Moynalvey 5-13 Duleek/Bellewstown 1-12

Things didn’t look too bright for the eventual winners early on as they trailed Duleek/Bellewstown 1-3 to no score after just five minutes.

Ciaran Ennis opened Moynalvey’s scoring in the 9th minute with a close range free after Sean Duggan was fouled. A Duleek/Bellewstown point two minutes later put six between the sides once again.

Sean Duggan split the posts in the 12th minute and sixty seconds later Duggan provided the assist for Ennis to point. A brace of Duleek/Bellewstown points from midfielders James Flaherty & Chris Carney had six between the sides again, 1-6 to 0-3 after 17 minutes of play.

The first of Moynalvey’s five goals came in the 19th minute when Ciaran Collins provided the assist for player/manager Barry O’Keeffe to finish past Duleek/Bellewstown ‘keeper Paddy Healy from close range. Another James Flaherty point for Duleek/Bellewstown was quickly followed by points by Shaun Deering and Ciaran Ennis for Moynalvey reducing the margin between the sides to two, 1-7 to 1-5 after 24 minutes.

A surge forward from centre back Brian Harnan resulted in him palming the ball to the Duleek/Bellewstown net following a return pass from Ciaran Collins handing Moynalvey the lead for the first time, one they weren’t to relinquish. A Ciaran Ennis penalty found its way to the net under Duleek/Bellewstown ‘keeper Paddy Healy in the 27th minute extending Moynalvey’s advantage to four points on a 3-5 to 1-8 score line.

Darren Mills converted a free for Duleek/Bellewstown in the 29th minute after a foul which saw Moynalvey’s Conor Egan black carded, leaving three between the sides at half time on a 3-5 to 1-8 score line.

Mills continued where he left off in the first half, scoring a point 5 minutes after the resumption. However following their early dominance of the game, Duleek/Bellewstown suffered a complete meltdown in the second period.

Two Ennis frees in the 36th & 41st minute were followed by a Duleek/Bellewstown point in the 42nd minute. Duleek/Bellewstown would have to wait until the 54th minute for their next score, while Moynalvey hit 2-4 in this period leaving them 13 points to the good after 53 minutes. Of the 2-4 the goals came from Ciaran Collins & Fearghal McCabe while the four points were scored by Ennis (2), Collins and Shaun Deering.

Duleek/Bellewstown added a point to their tally, while points for Moynalvey’s Barry O’Keeffe and Ciaran Ennis rounded off the games scoring leaving Moynalvey 13 point winners on a 5-13 to 1-12 score line.

Best for the winners were Brian Harnan, Sean Duggan, Ciaran Ennis and Ciaran Collins.
