Moynalvey suffered a heavy ten point defeat at the hands of Gaeil Colmcille in round five of Div. 3 of the A League in sunny Kells on Sunday afternoon June 26th.

Gaeil Colmcille 4-13 Moynalvey 1-12

Gaeil Colmcille were quickest off the mark, sending over two points in the opening two minutes. Moynalvey opened their account in the 11th minute courtesy of a Ray Ryan free. By the time Moynalvey registered their second score, once again a Ryan free, the host side had added 1-3 to their tally. Gaeil Colmcille added two further points before the break, leaving the score line reading 1-7 to 0-2 at the interval.

Thirty seconds after the restart, full forward Ciaran Collins pointed Moynalvey’s third score of the afternoon. Any hopes of a Moynalvey revival were dashed in the next eight minutes, when Gaeil Colmcille hit 2-1, increasing their advantage to fourteen points. Over the reminder of the game Moynalvey upped the tempo and hit 1-9, 1-7 from Ray Ryan (0-4 play, 0-3 frees, 1-0 penalty), and a point apiece for Ken Hyland and substitute Brian Conneely. Despite Moynalvey’s second half improvement, Gaeil Colmcille’s ability to find the net resulted in the town side running out comfortable 4-13 to 1-12 victors.
