St. Colmcilles came out on top in this opening round Feis Cup tie on a 1-12 to 0-9 score line at Pilltown on Friday evening May 27th.

When these two sides met in the first round of the Intermediate Championship it was Moynalvey who came out on top. This time roles were reversed as an under strength Moynalvey went down to home side St. Colmcilles by six points. Despite playing against a strong wind, it was the visitors who opened the scoring with a Ciaran Collins point in the second minute. St. Colmcilles then opened up a four point advantage hitting 1-2 in the space of four minutes. Moynalvey endured their own purple patch, reducing the margin to the minimum again with points from Willie Byrne (0-2) and Dan Treacy (0-1). The Moynalvey full forward line combined well to set up Byrne for his third score of the evening in the 24th minute. St. Colmcilles dominated possession for the remaining five minutes registering 3 unanswered points, with Collins adding a point for Moynalvey in the 28th minute. The goal remained the difference between the sides at the interval as the score line read 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of the host side.
Following the break Moynalvey reduced the deficit to two points with a James Weldon effort. St. Colmcilles added a further 0-2 to their tally, but a John Donoghue point mid way through the half left only the goal between the sides once again. With ten minutes remaining St. Colmcilles pushed five points clear. Despite bossing possession over the remainder of the game, a combination of dropping numerous balls short into the St. Colmcilles goalie’s arms and dismal shooting resulted in Moynalvey only adding one more point from the impressive Collins. The sea siders added 0-2 in the final two minutes securing a 1-12 to 0-9 victory.
