Moynalvey’s poor league form continued losing their fifth game from eight outings, while Walterstown gave themselves a chance of survival going into the last round in a fortnight’s time.

Welcoming back Mark O’Sullivan and David Reilly for the first time this year wasn’t enough to ignite Moynalvey as another jekyll and hyde performance where a dire first half showing from the home side allowed the visitors open up a 10 point half time lead, which was eleven points at one stage in the opening half.

Moynalvey opened the scoring with a Brian O’Reilly point, but Walterstown replied with a hat trick of Aron McLoughlin points to lead 0-3 to 0-1 after eight minutes.

Mark O’Sullivan sent over for Moynalvey in the ninth minute, with Walterstown’s Brian O’Connell replying two minutes later. Then came the game’s first goal when Moynalvey goalkeeper Chris O’Malley failed to deal with a ball which was then scuffled over the line by Walterstown’s Adam Quinn to give the Blacks a 1-4 to 0-2 lead with 12 minutes on the clock.

A trio of Walterstown points from Brian O’Connell, Conor Lenehan and Mark Foy extended Walterstown’s advantage to 1-7 to 0-2 with 20 minutes played.

A Vinny Walsh free broke the Walterstown scoring spree, but another four unanswered points for the visitors, three from Adam Quinn including two brilliantly struck forty fives and a point for Mark Foy gave the Blacks an eleven point lead, 1-11 to 0-3, with 31 minutes played.

An Adam Murphy free for Moynalvey left the half time score read 1-11 to 0-4.

As with any team trailing by ten points at half time you would expect a second half reaction, Moynalvey outscored their opponents 1-6 to 0-3 in the second half, but the 10 point deficit proved insurmountable.

Adam Murphy kick started the Moynalvey revival with a point within a minute of the restart. Walterstown replied with a point from Paul Donnellan.

Moynalvey points from Anthony Forde and Adam Murphy were followed by a Vinny Walsh goal to reduce the deficit to five points, 1-12 to 1-7, with 13 minutes of the second half played.

Adam Quinn and Anthony Forde traded points to leave the five point margin remain between the sides at the three quarter hour mark, 1-13 to 1-8.

Try as they did Moynalvey failed to reel in their opponents. The final quarter saw Moynalvey add a further pair of points through Anthony Forde and a late Vinny Walsh free in response to an Aron McLoughlin point, which meant a deserved win for Walterstown on a 1-14 to 1-10 full time score line.
