Fourth League Loss away to Oldcastle

Moynalvey suffered their fourth loss of the A league on a 2-13 to 0-6 point score line away to Oldcastle on Tuesday evening 3rd May.

Oldcastle 2-13
Moynalvey 0-6

Moynalvey’s long Tuesday night trek to Millbrook was an even longer trip home after a disappointing thirteen point defeat to Jude McNabb’s Oldcastle side in round 6 of the A League.

An already injury stricken Moynalvey squad who lost David McLoughlin and Sean Duggan through injury since last week’s win over Curraha woes were further compounded with the loss of Craig Gilsenan to injury in the warmup, with Paul Corcoran drafted into the starting line-up in his place.

Right from the off it was the home side who were in control of proceedings, opening up a four point to no score advantage before Moynalvey eventually got on the score board in the 17th minute with a Vinny Walsh free.

But for an excellent fingertip penalty save onto the crossbar from Moynalvey ‘keeper Ray Ryan in the eighth minute the home side’s lead would have been even greater.

A pair of Oldcastle points from Robert Farrelly, one either side of a Fearghal McCabe point for the visitors left the score board read 0-6 to 0-2 with 24 minutes played.

Oldcastle’s Colin Hawdon rounded off the half’s scoring to leave it a five point advantage to Oldcastle at half time, 0-7 to 0-2.

The home side stretched their advantage to seven points soon after the break with a brace of points.
Moynalvey responded with Ray Ryan splitting the uprights with a brilliantly struck ’45, followed by a Ciaran Harnan free leaving it 0-9 to 0-4 nine minutes into the second half.

Any hope of a Moynalvey comeback were dashed in the next five minutes as Oldcastle struck for two goals, leaving it 2-9 to 0-4 at the three quarter hour mark, securing their well deserved win.

Since Moynalvey’s last score in the 39th minute, Oldcastle hit 2-3 without reply until Moynalvey’s next score from Anthony Forde in the 56th minute.

Moynalvey’s woes were further compounded when losing Cathal McCabe to a second bookable offence in the 50th minute.

Pearse Sheridan and Ciaran Harnan traded points before the full-time whistle, leaving the full time score 2-13 to 0-6.
