Score Board NOM ExtendedMoynalvey made it two wins from two outings in the Feis Cup when accounting for visitors Navan O’Mahonys at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Wednesday evening 16th June.

Moynalvey 5-9
Navan O’Mahonys 1-13

Despite both sides registering fourteen scores, it was Moynalvey’s ability to carve open the Navan side’s defence for five goals that proved the difference.

The opening score of the game came in the 4th minute via a David McLoughlin free, with Navan O’Mahony’s Jake Regan replying for the visitors from a converted mark a minute later.

The first of Moynalvey’s green flags was raised in the 10th minute when Moynalvey centre forward Darren Brennan fired to the back of Colm Honan’s net.

Two minutes later the first daylight was put between the sides when Ciaran Harnan netted to leave it 2-1 to 0-1 after 12 minutes. An Eoin Joyce score for O’Mahony’s left it 2-1 to 0-2 at the first water break.

Three Jake Regan points, one from play and two frees were traded with Moynalvey’s David McLoughlin to leave it 2-3 to 0-5 after 26 minutes.

Two well taken Moynalvey points, the first from Sean Duggan and the second from Cathal McCabe left the two goals between the sides, 2-5 to 0-5.

A brace of Navan O’Mahonys points left the half time score board reading 2-5 to 0-7 in favour of the home side.

A minute after the restart O’Mahonys Eoin Joyce converted a free to narrow the gap to three. This was as good as the O’Mahonys revival got though, as three unanswered Moynalvey goals from Ciaran Harnan (2) and Brian O’Reilly between the 2nd and 11th minute of the half extended Moynalvey’s advantage to twelve points, 5-5 to 0-8.

Three O’Mahonys placed balls and a well taken score from corner forward Ronan Clarke either side of a couple of David McLoughlin frees for Moynalvey left it 5-7 to 0-12 with 55 minutes played.

Two Moynalvey points from substitute Shaun Deering and Fearghal McCabe were countered by a consolation goal and late free for O’Mahonys to leave the full-time score 5-9 to 1-13.

The cliché goals win games definitely applied to this game with the scoring plaudits going to the youngest of the four Harnan brothers on the field Ciaran for his hat-trick of goals.

Next up for Moynalvey is a trip to Grangedodden for a round three tie against Gaeil Colmcille next Wednesday 23rd.
