Summerhill picked up their first win of the SFC with a five point win over neighbours Moynalvey in round 2 of the Fairyhouse Steel SFC played at St. Lomans Park Trim on Saturday evening April 20th.

Moynalvey 1-9
Summerhill 1-14

With contrasting first round fortunes, it was Declan McCabe's charges who came out on top in this local derby to pick up their first win following their first round defeat to Donaghmore/Ashbourne.

Summerhill started brightly opening up an early three point lead with three Barry Dardis points, two frees and one from play with another from Sean Dalton, while Moynalvey's opening score came from Donal Smith.

Following his 20 minute cameo against Rathkenny, David McLoughlin started his first game of the year and opened his account in this game with a free in the 20th minute, leaving it 0-4 to 0-2.

Moynalvey lost influential defender Darren Brennan to a black card in the 24th minute. Liam Shaw having taken up free taking duties following the loss of Barry Dardis to injury tapped over the ensuing close range free. A minute later McLoughlin also pointed a free for Moynalvey leaving it 0-5 to 0-3 in favour of the 'Hill.

Sixty seconds later McLoughlin struck for the game's first goal giving the men in maroon and white the lead for the first time. Another McLoughlin point left Moynalvey two points up with 27 minutes played, 1-4 to 0-5.

But Summerhill turned the two point deficit into a four point half time advantage hitting Moynalvey for 1-3 before the half time whistle leaving them 1-8 to 1-4 ahead at the break.

Within three minutes of the restart the margin was narrowed to two points with Padraic Harnan and a McLoughlin free.

Just as they had done following the concession of the goal Summerhill had the perfect response to Moynalveys rally with Liam Shaw firing over a free and '45.

Either side of Summerhill points from David Larkin and Conor Lyons Moynalvey substitute James Weldon scored to leave it 1-12 to 1-8 eleven minutes into the second period.

Liam Shaw and Cillian O'Sullivan traded frees before substitute Conor Frayne added a late score to give the runners up of the last two years their first win of the SFC on a 1-14 to 1-9 score line.

Summerhill's win coupled with other results mean Group B is evenly poised with four of the six teams now on two points heading into the championship break.
