Simonstown comprehensive winners over Moynalvey in A League

Simonstown Gaels had little trouble in disposing of Moynalvey in this round 6 A League game played at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Sunday morning March 24th.

Simonstown continued their good run in the Div. 1 A League with a comprehensive win over Moynalvey who remain winless and rooted to the bottom of the table, contrasting fortunes for both sides with just 2 weeks to the start of the championship.

Leading by eleven points at half time Simonstown's win never looked in doubt.

Adam Murphy returning from injury for his first game this season opened the scoring when palming home his own rebound to Robbie Burlingham's net in the first minute.Sean Tobin, Mark McCabe and a Shane Barry brace had the Navan side ahead in the 7th minute, 0-4 to 1-0. James Weldon frees either side of a Shane Barry goal for Simonstown left it 1-4 to 1-2 after 18 minutes.

From here on Simonstown took complete control. A pair of Mark McCabe points along with points from Padraig McKeever and Nathan O’Brien put Des Lane’s charges six points up with 23 minutes played.

Adam Murphy pointed for Moynalvey’s only first half score from play and their last of the half. Simonstown finished the half strongly with points from Nathan O’Brien and Padraig McKeever and another Shane Barry goal to leave the half time score read 2-11 to 1-3.

Simonstown’s eleven point half time lead was quickly extended to seventeen with goals from Padraig McKeever and James Heaney within seven minutes of the restart. Moynalvey responded with a James Weldon free and Shane Lenehan point.

Simonstown’s fifth goal came in the 44th minute and rounded off with another five points, with Moynalvey replying with two Darren Brennan points saw the Gaels’ run out comprehensive winners, 5-18 to 1-7.

Two week’s time sees Moynalvey play Rathkenny in the SFC opening round, while Simonstown open their championship campaign against Wolfe Tones.
