Moynalvey recorded their first win of the 2018 SFC when taking the two points on offer in this Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship Group C third round tie against previously unbeaten St. Colmcilles at Dunshaughlin on Sunday evening 29th July.

Moynalvey 3-15
St. Colmcilles 0-14

Having suffered two heavy defeats in their opening two rounds against Wolfe Tones and Ratoath Moynalvey rekindled their 2018 championship with a well deserved first win of their championship campaign.

It was St. Colmcilles who got off to the better start posting three early points, however Moynalvey’s start proved to be even better with their opening three scores being three goals in as many minutes. Cillian O’Sullivan and Shane Lenehan combined to set up David McLoughlin for a close range finish for the first goal, Dan Treacy assisted Lenehan for the second and then Lenehan turned provider for McLoughlin’s second to leave it 3-0 to 0-4 after seven minutes.

Cilles’ points from David O’Byrne and Graham Reilly either side of a McLoughlin point left it 3-1 to 0-5. Points from Shane Lenehan and Cillian O’Sullivan (2) extended Moynalvey’s advantage to eight points after 21 minutes.

Two James’, Conlon for St. Colmcilles and Weldon for Moynalvey traded scores, then it was the turn of county players Graham Reilly and Cillian Sullivan who pointed for their sides to leave the score 3-6 to 0-7 after 26 minutes. St. Colmcilles points from Ruairi O’Grady and Cathal Hilliard left it 3-6 to 0-9 at half time.

Fifteen seconds after the restart David McLoughlin pointed, with St. Colmcilles responding with two frees. Two more McLoughlin points were followed by a Shane Lenehan point before O’Sullivan produced a pin point pass to McLoughlin which saw him fouled when bearing down on goal with O’Sullivan converting the resultant free to leave the score 3-11 to 0-11 after 17 minutes of the second half.

Once again O’Sullivan and Reilly traded scores before Moynalvey were unlucky not to grab a fourth goal when Darren Brennan’s strike at goal crashed off the cross bar. The ball was recycled to Brennan and a second effort at goal was deflected over the bar.

A sixth point from David McLoughlin rounded off his personal tally of 2-6, with two late injury time scores from St. Colmcilles leaving the score read 3-15 to 0-14 at referee Davis Coldrick’s full time whistle.

Best for the winners were Robert Lawless, Brian O’Reilly, Donal Smith, Cathal McCabe, Shane Lenehan and David McLoughlin.
