Moynalvey registered their first win of the 2018 A League campaign with a 10 point win over visitors St. Colmcilles on Sunday morning February 4th.

Moynalvey 3-12
St. Colmcilles 1-8

Hosting their first home league game it was Moynalvey who opened the scoring through a James Weldon free in the 3rd minute.

Two minutes later St. Colmcilles opened their account with a point from Eanna Walsh.

A speculative point attempt from Moynalvey’s Stephen Donoghue dropped short, with full forward James Weldon fisting the ball past Cilles net minder Jordan Browne for the game’s first goal in the 9th minute.

A brace from Adam Murphy, a ‘45 along with a free and a Darren Brennan point, with the visitors Adam Lynch replying, left the score reading 1-4 to 0-2 after 26 minutes.

A pair of Colmcilles’ points from Conor O’Byrne and David O’Byrne before the half time whistle, left the goal between the sides at the break, 1-4 to 0-4.

Within five minutes of the restart St. Colmcilles’ took the lead for the first and only time as they hit 1-1, to take a 1-5 to 1-4 lead.

Having conceded the goal Moynalvey could not have had a better response, as they replied with a goal of their own with Shane Lenehan accounting for the home side’s second green flag.

Colmcilles’ Jeff Kavanagh and Moynalvey’s Adam Murphy traded scores, before a Cilles pop shot at goal was well saved by Moynalvey ‘keeper Conor Egan.

Two St. Colmcilles’ points in the 45th & 48th minutes drew the sides level for only the second time, 2-5 to 1-8.

Moynalvey outscored their opponents 1-7 to no score from this point onwards.

The final quarter scoring spree started with substitute Ray Ryan feeding David McLoughlin for Moynalvey’s third goal in the 50th minute.

Points from substitute Cathal McCabe and John Donoghue were followed an excellent move whereby another substitute Ray Ryan pinged a pinpoint cross field ball to James Weldon, who in turn popped a handpass to Stephen Donoghue who fired over.

A further quartet of points from Shane Lenehan, Ray Ryan, Adam Murphy and Cathal McCabe rounded off the scoring, giving Moynalvey a 10 point winning margin over the East Meath men on a 3-12 to 1-8 score line.

Next up for Moynalvey is a Friday night game under lights away to Skryne next Friday 9th February.
