A strong first half showing put County Champions Simonstown Gaels on the road to victory in this A League Round 12 game played at Simonstown on Sunday afternoon July 2nd.

Simonstown Gaels 2-13
Moynalvey 0-11

The home side bossed proceedings in the opening period, leading 0-8 to 0-3 at the break. Anthony Forde accounted for Moynalvey's solitary 1st half point from play, with two David McLoughlin frees accounting for their other two scores. The home side's opening half points came from Brian Conlon (2), Nathan O'Brien (2), Mark McCabe, Brian McGrath, Niall Kane and a Michael Brennan '45.

A better second half showing from Moynalvey saw them narrow the deficit to just a point with 12 mins remaining, 0-10 to 0-9. However the concession of two goals within three minutes saw any hope of a Moynalvey comeback dashed.

Firstly a point attempt falling short was punched home by Simonstown midfielder Mark McCabe in the 50th minute which was followed by a Nathan O'Brien goal in the 52nd following the initial effort by former county player Shane O'Rourke being saved.

This left Moynalvey eight points adrift of the home side, a margin they could not close before the full time whistle.

The sides will renew acquaintances very soon as they meet in the 2nd round of the Championship upon its resumption.
