Rathkenny overcame Moynalvey with ease in this Group A final round tie of the 2015 Hoganstand.com Senior Football Championship on a 2-10 to 1-4 score line at Walterstown on Sunday evening August 23rd.

Moynalvey 1-4 Rathkenny 2-10

Already condemned to the relegation series of the Senior Championship Rathkenny deservedly picked up the two points on offer in this final round group A game on Sunday evening played in atrocious wet conditions. Despite this loss to Rathkenny, Moynalvey’s involvement in this year’s Senior Football Championship would have been ended even if the win was attained, as other results within the group would have ruled Moynalvey out from progression to the knock out stages of the championship anyway.

Rathkenny had built up a four point lead by the time Moynalvey registered their first score in the 27th minute when James Weldon pointed leaving the half time score 0-4 to 0-1.

The deficit between the sides remained at three, 0-6 to 0-3, 10 minutes after the restart with the Moynalvey points coming from David McLoughlin and substitute James O’Neill. Moynalvey would have to wait until the 28th minute of the half for their next score, a free from David McLoughlin, as their opponents hit 2-4 without reply to lead 2-10 to 0-4. A late goal from Moynalvey’s Shane Lenehan was mere consolation as Des Lane’s charges ran out 2-10 to 1-4 winners to pick up their first win.
