Moynalvey made it 2 wins from 2 after this hard fought one point victory over Dunderry in the A league Division 2 league game played in Kilmore Park, Moynalvey on Sunday 23rdFebruary.

Moynalvey 1-12 Dunderry 1-11

Throwing in at midday, the strong wind and wet underfoot conditions made for a tough but entertaining game. Dunderry scored the first 2 points of the game before Moynalvey took the lead through James Kelly and Mark O’Sullivan points from play as well as an O’Sullivan free. Dunderry then capitilised on a fumble in the Moynalvey square to pounce for the game’s first goal before David Reilly kicked a fine point from play for the home side to close the gap to the minimum 0-4 to 1-2. A Ray Ryan fisted point was sandwiched between 3 Dunderry points before Shane Lenehan drilled a low shot from 20 yards to the Dunderry net to level the game after 25 minutes. A Mark O’Sullivan pointed free and a James Kelly point from play in response to a Dunderry point left Moynalvey ahead at the interval 1-7 to 1-6.

The second half was equally close but despite drawing level a number of times, crucially Dunderry never got ahead. Substitutes James Weldon and Barry O’Keeffe both scored from play but each time Dunderry responded and after 45 minutes the game was level again 1-9 each. Mark O’Sullivan pointed from play to restore Moynalvey’s lead but again Dunderry responded to leave the game level with 10 minutes remaining.
Moynalvey then pushed on for victory and scores from play by O’Keeffe, an excellent point from near the sideline, and O’Sullivan gave Moynalvey a 2 point lead with time almost up. Dunderry then pointed a 45 and in the last seconds of injury time missed one last chance to secure a draw.
Moynalvey now sit joint top of Division 2 with 4 points from 2 games played.
