Moynalvey produced an excellent second half display to emerge 5 point victors over St Vincents of Ardcath in the first round of the Junior A championship played yesterday, Sunday 15th April, in Skryne.

Moynalvey 1 - 13 St Vincents 2 - 5

Moynalvey started strongly and raced into a five points to one lead after 15 minutes courtesy of three Cathal Sheridan frees and excellent scores from play by PJ Walsh and Robbie Quinlan. However, the game was turned upside down when St Vincents scored 2 goals in the space of 5 minutes shortly before half time to go four points ahead themselves before another Sheridan free left the half time score at 2 - 3 to 0 - 6 with the eventual losers in the lead.

Moynalvey had to respond and respond they did going on to dominate the second half and outscore their opponents by 1 - 7 to 0 - 2 in the period. Two more Sheridan frees reduced the gap to a minimum before an excellent three quarter length of the field move which involved John Donoghue, Damian Dixon, Willie Byrne, Cathal Sheridan, Donoghue again and PJ Walsh was smashed to the net by Ciaran Ennis.

Moynalvey now had the ascendancy and two more Sheridan frees as well as superbly worked points from play by Donal Smith, James Weldon and Sheridan left the final winning margin at five points.

This was an excellent second half team performance by Moynalvey and they will now play Bective in the next round.
