Moynalvey’s victory over Syddan on Sunday afternoon August 19th in this 10th round Div. 3 A League fixture ensured promotion to Division 2 next year was secured with a round of league fixtures remaining.

Moynalvey 1-15 Syddan 0-6

Moynalvey’s long journey to Syddan proved to be a profitable one as the victory secured second position in the Div. 3 AFL table behind table toppers Na Fianna, which in turn sets up a league final decider between the two sides.  The opening score of the game arrived in the 9th minute when Moynalvey centre forward David Donoghue fired over, but two minutes later the home side levelled matters with a converted free kick. By the time Syddan registered their second score of the game Moynalvey had scored 1-5 without reply. Mark O’Sullivan began the scoring spree in the 13th minute, with further points from James Kelly and John Donoghue; with 1-2 from the impressive Ciaran Ennis. Syddan’s second score also came from a placed ball in the 22nd minute, leaving seven points between the sides, 1-6 to 0-2. A trio of Moynalvey points from Padraig Donoghue, Ennis and Mark O’Sullivan, with a Syddan effort sandwiched in between, left the half time score reading 1-9 to 0-3 in favour of Moynalvey.

Syddan hit their 4th point of the game five minutes into the second half, but any aspirations of a revival for the home side were dashed nine minutes after the restart with two more Moynalvey points courtesy of Ennis and Daniel Treacy, leaving 10 points between the sides. Moynalvey rounded off their scoring with points from James Kelly, Ciaran Ennis and Daniel Treacy; while Syddan added a further 0-2 to their tally leaving the final score line reading 1-15 to 0-6. The victory saw Moynalvey clinch the 2 points required to ensure promotion to Division 2 next year and also a place in this year’s Division 3 decider against Na Fianna, with a final round group game against Carnaross awaiting beforehand.
